Obituary of David E. Petersen

LeRoy ~ David E. Petersen, age 50, of Bernd Road, passed away unexpectedly at home on Friday, July 31, 2015. He was born October 10, 1964 in Urbana, N.Y., the son of Nola Palmer Petersen and the late Arthur Petersen. David served in the U.S. Navy for six years. He was a nuclear power electricians mate and a plank owner onboard the naval submarine USS Pittsburgh SSN 720. After his Navy tour of duty, he worked in the commercial power generation systems field and eventually operated his own business, Emergency Power Systems, Inc. He survived and rehabilitated after a traumatic burn injury, worked to further his education and ultimately returned to the workforce, gainfully employed by the City of Batavia. David was an avid woodworker and enjoyed fishing and gardening and a lifelong love of animals. He also had a passion for cooking, often experimenting with new and exotic dishes. In addition to his mother, Nola Petersen of Mitchellsville, he is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Mary Ellen Petersen; his daughter, Heather Petersen (Joe Wheaton) of Canandaigua; his sisters, Jody (Mark) Applebee of Prattsburgh and Terry (Stan) von Hagn of Mitchellsville, along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 4 ~ 6 P.M. at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake Road (Rt. 19), LeRoy, where his Celebration of Life Service will be held at 6 P.M. Interment in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Hammondsport, will be at the convenience of the family.
