Obituary of Robert J. Lathan Sr.

LeRoy ~ Robert J. Lathan Sr., age 82, of Munson Street, passed away Sunday morning (August 28, 2016) at Unity Hospital in the loving presence of his family. He was born April 27, 1934 in Batavia, a son of the late Charles and Mary Walters Lathan. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, S. Patricia "Patty" Lathan and his brothers, Charles and William (Helen) Lathan. Bob served with the U.S. Army and was very active in local and county government. He served as a trustee and mayor for the Village of LeRoy, and then went on to serve as a Genesee County Legislator. Bob retired from Frontier Telephone of Rochester after 45 years of service, where he was a member of the Local 1170 CWA. He was also a member of the American Legion and Our Lady of Mercy Parish. He is survived by his children, Robert Jr. (Kelly) Lathan of LeRoy, Lori (Jeff) Steinbrenner of LeRoy and Polly (Brent) Tillotson of Pavilion; grandchildren, Stevi Lynn, Austin, Emily, Ethan and Cole; his companion, JoAnn Snyder; sister-in-law, Celia Citanovich; brothers-in-law, John Eppolito and Anthony Privitera, along with many nieces and nephews. Bob enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was an avid gardener, creative cook and world traveler. His love for his family, friends and community made him well liked by many. He will be dearly missed. The family will be present to receive friends on Wednesday, Aug. 31 from 3 ~ 7 PM at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake Road (Rt. 19). His Rite of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, Sept. 1 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Peter's Church, 44 Lake Street, LeRoy. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Wilmot Cancer Center, 601 Elmwood Avenue, P.O. Box 704, Rochester, N.Y. 14642.
