Obituary of David Philip Trapp
David P. Trapp – A Life Well Lived
David Philip Trapp, 86-years-old, took Jesus' hand and went home to heaven on Tuesday, December 6, 2016.
David was born on January 29, 1930 in Rochester, New York to George and Hilda Trapp. He was the youngest son of four children – Dorothy Oakden (Trapp), Lorraine Oakden (Trapp), and Robert Trapp.
Known for his ease in frequent conversation with even total strangers, some may be surprised to learn how bashful Dave was. Yet even as a child, he possessed an entertaining sense of humor that kept him both in and out of trouble. Throughout his life he maintained a kind demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many, who even now are being changed by his witness of love and faith. His signature gift of Helps, always having the desire and ability to help others with a servant’s heart, defined his Christian walk of faith.
After graduating from Jefferson High School, Dave met the love of his life, Marion Kennedy on a Youth For Christ Boating Cruise. Dave saw Marion and a girlfriend walking down the pier and stated to a friend of his “You see that girl down there, I’m going to marry her!” … just like that, Dave would say. The next day, she showed up to his church with her father. “He came with his shotgun.” Now Dave started courting her, the church was having a hayride, then he took her out a few more times and one day he said to her, “Now you’re going to forget all these other guys, make up your mind, you either want them or me.” Marion had several evenings where she was “double-booked” for dates. It was meant to be because the couple was married shortly following graduation on September 2, 1949. Married for 67 years, David and Marion raised their six children, Jane, David, Susan, Danny, Karen and Jimmy in upstate New York. Their marriage has been held in high honor among all. They both had different strengths but always showed each other the utmost respect and love. It was clear to everyone that they treasured each other. A granddaughter recalls that Dave and Marion always worked together in unity of purpose, right down to the daily task of “supper”. Grandma would cook and Grandpa would set the table and wash the dishes. Every task was a team effort.
Dave attended Bob Jones University and Nyack College where he worked on his Biblical Studies Major. Throughout his career he owned a waste management business, drove school bus and worked at Delco as a machine repairman. He was a pilot, and during his spare time enjoyed flying. He had aspirations of becoming a missionary pilot and delivering supplies to the field.
Dave was ever a gentleman and loving husband. He cherished his wife Marion more than words can describe. Marion, his one and only loved him dearly. They were united by Christ as one, and even just prior to his passing, Dave danced with and kissed Marion until they laughed so hard they had to stop. Besides Marion, Dave loved ice cream and pickles! He has passed his love of ice cream down to the generations. One Uncle told young Dave that he would buy all the ice cream Dave could eat in one sitting… his Uncle ran out of money.
As a loving father and grandfather, Dave always provided life wisdom rooted in his faith in Jesus. Until his final days, his prayers were to “Help us O Lord to do as You would have us do and to walk in thy path.” Dave was a father figure to many in his life. The know-how he passed on regarding construction, mechanics, and so many other life lessons are invaluable.
A favorite pastime, Dave and Marion enjoyed traveling across the country together in their motorhome. There were many camping trips with family and friends with lasting fond memories. Dave retired from Delco after 23 years and some time later, the couple bought a villa in Florida near many of their lifelong friends where they spent winters in sunshine.
On Tuesday, with Marion and kids nearby, Dave stepped into the presence of his King. This Christmas, our Patriarch’s seat will be empty, but make no mistake, he leaves behind a passion for our calling that should rekindle our commitment to walk in the light, to invade the darkness, to shine in the chaos.

Our sorrow is balanced against the beautifully crafted life of a man who knew and loved his savior. His faithful journey informs and inspires the stewardship of his legacy.
