Wayne Murray

Obituary of Wayne Murray

LeRoy ~ Wayne Patrick Murray ("Butch" and "Uncle Boo"), age 69, of Pleasant Street, passed away on Monday, June 11, 2018 at Highland Hospital in Rochester, in the loving presence of his family.

He was born June 21, 1948 in Batavia, N.Y., a son of the late Adelbert and Marian Henry Murray.

Butch was a long-term resident of Leroy, N.Y. Of his many passions, he loved listening to music, singing, and coming up with new lyrics to old songs. He single-handedly helped to shape the musical interests of many around him. Butch had a passion for classic cars and race-weekends; he was a Ford man through and through. He enjoyed debate and discussion, politics, jokes and puns, and challenging people to think differently. Butch was an incredible cook. For a man who lived alone, he was always cooking something up and he loved to share meals with friends and family. After a long career as a service representative in the automotive industry, Butch kept himself busy tinkering with cars and boats and fixing things around the house. He found peace while boating and spending time at Keuka Lake and in watching many different types of birds come to his well-stocked bird-feeders. We have all learned so much from this incredible man. He will be forever in our hearts. It seems fitting to include a short song lyric; Butch would have liked it that way. “Open your heart, I’m coming home” ~Pink Floyd

He is survived by his siblings, Shelia (late James) Widenmyer of Hilton, Dorothy (late Calvin) Parry of Rochester, Betty (Andy) Schery of TX, David (Regina) Murray of Dansville and Dennis (Kristin) Murray of Chili; his nieces and nephews, Joanne (Don) Kozlowski of TX, Darla Wolcik-Kestle of FL, Brett Murray of Conesus, DeNae (Rich) Gibson of Dansville, Sean (Lisa) Parry of Webster, Kevin (Christina) Parry of Rochester, Josh Murray of Rochester and Shelly (Jason) Garwood of MT; great nieces and nephews, Natalie Kestle, Jessica Kozlowski, Jeffrey Kozlowski, Chanel Gibson, Breden Gibson, Isabella Murray, Nicholas Murray, Nina Parry, Shannon Parry, Allison Parry, Austin Parry and Etta Garwood.  Butch loved, and is loved by his life-long friends Jesse Mitchell, Bethie Elle, Terry Mitchell, and Lauren Mitchell.

He was predeceased by his sister, Onnole Murray and his loving pet, Margaret T. Kitty.

Wayne wanted everyone to remember him in life; therefore, no services were held. Wayne was laid to rest in Mumford Rural Cemetery on June 15, 2018.  For more information about Butch, kindly call his niece, Darla Kestle, 503-756-6905.
