Wilma Hively

Obituary of Wilma M. Hively

Wilma Mae (Lang) Hively passed away the morning of August 19, 2019 at the Grand Nursing Home in Batavia, at the age of 85.

Wilma was born May 18, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan, the oldest daughter of the late Walter J Lang Sr and Gladys (Rasch) Lang. She grew up in Bliss, NY on the family farm, graduating from Letchworth Central School in 1952 and continuing her education with graduate work through Cornell, Syracuse and the University of Brockport, graduating in 1956.

For many years Wilma was a physical education teacher, beginning her career in Geneva and then on to Holy Family School and the LeRoy School system. Along with teaching Phys Ed and coaching soccer, she also taught swimming lessons, which was her greatest passion, at several pools in the area. She finally retired from teaching at the age 76 to spend time with her husband and pursue other things.

In her spare time she enjoyed singing with the Genesee Chorale, watching some sports, especially if the Yankees were getting beat and also loved to crochet and knit hat and mitten sets for children, which she donated to local charities and playing with her “furry baby” Millie.

She is survived by her children, George (Dilmira) Hively III of West Mifflin, PA, Melissa (Dick Cousins) White of Pavilion, Guy (Leslie) Hively of Christiana, Tenn, and Greg Hively of LeRoy.  She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jeffery (Amy) and Kristen White; Von, Jacob and Ethan Hively; George Hively IV; Cory and Cody Simons; and her “furry baby” Millie.

She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, George E Hively Jr in 2016, along with her siblings, Nancy Kwapich and Walter Lang Jr.

Wilma will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother and a dear friend to many.

Per Wilma's request, there will be no visitation or services. Memorials are suggested to your local ASPCA, Camp Good Days and Special Times, or a charity of your choosing.

Interment to take place in Machpelah Cemetery.
