Obituary of Jean B. Costa
LeRoy ~ Jean B. Costa, age 85, of Asbury Road, passed away Wednesday (January 29, 2020) at Strong Memorial Hospital, in the loving presence of her family.
She was born July 3, 1934 in Batavia, N.Y., a daughter of the late Bruce and Noreen Dimick Brayley.
Jean will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, Aunt and dear friend to many. She was a graduate of Batavia High School and went on to receive her degree to become a registered nurse, graduating from the St. Jerome Hospital School of Nursing in 1955. She worked for many years at St. Jerome Hospital and concluded her nursing career after working for Lapp Insulator for 17 years, retiring in 1993.
Jean was all about her community and what she could do for it. She volunteered at the LeRoy Historical Society and Crossroads House, she served as Eucharistic Minister at St. Peter's Church and was recognized with many awards to include the Certificate of Excellence from the LeRoy Christian Community, the 1984 Health & Humanitarian Award for Genesee County presented by St. Jerome Hospital Association, Lifetime Honorary Membership with the LeRoy Volunteer Ambulance and the 1989 President's Achievement Award from Lapp Insulator.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of almost 62 years, Victor A. Costa; her children, Jim Costa, Vickie Costa, Cindy Larsen, Peter Costa and Marie Lang; Son in laws, Todd Larsen, Mark Lang and David Fisher, Daughter in law Nikole Costa. Grandchildren: Cara, Cassie, Brittany, Matthew, Brandon, Camryn, Connor, Morgan, Tracy and Mike. Great-grandchildren, Michael, Jason, Zoe, Sadie and Aubrey, along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Brenda Costa Fisher, her daughter in-law Lu Costa, her brothers, Bruce and Laverne "Bud" Brayley and her sister, Ruth McFate.
There are no prior calling hours. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 4th at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Peter's Church, 44 Lake St., LeRoy.
