When I began a new teaching position in Batavia (GVEP) in 1986, Mrs. Burell was at her corner every morning. When I retired in 2014 she was still there. When I went back to fill a long term sub position--she was still there! I don't live in the LeRoy community, yet I knew her. She was petit in physicality but had an enormous presence to those of us who didn't know her personally. She will be misssed.

The corner of Church and Main will forever be Myrt's place. She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her and admired her dedication to all her "kids". She was a blessing to everyone. You never had to worry when Myrt was on duty. It wasn't a job to her, it was a commitment to our beloved children who were always in good hands, and a whistle or two.

Myrtle guided my sons across Main St for many years. After my sons moved up to the high school I would look for her at her corner on my way to work in Batavia and we would wave to each other. Part of Myrtle's job was being a guardian angel to all the LeRoy kids. Now she will be their guardian angel from heaven. That corner will never look or be the same without her. Rest in Paradise Myrtle with your beloved husband.

No matter the weather, there was Myrtle, a happy way. All the children, were well taken care of. I believe, Myrtle will always be on that corner. Hopefully, LeRoy will put a sign, or bench or moument in her honor at her corner. Will miss you lots. God bless

I have no other memory than having Myrtle at the corner of Wolcott and Main. I knew she expected everyone to follow the rules and this would maintain the safety of all. After moving back to the area with my own children and seeing the familiar face, I was comforted to know our children would remain safe. Both her and husband were the kindest people I have ever known. May she rest in peace and continue to shine down upon us.

I am so saddened to hear of Myrtle's passing. During my 20 years as Wolcott St.School Principal, I always knew...always knew that my students were protected, safeguarded, and cared for by Myrt as they crossed Route 5 day after day...year after year. Myrt loved the kids, loved her work, and the community loved her. I was honored to know her. Rest in peace, Myrt.

from all the former students of WSS and the current ones, we send our love to Myrtle’s family. She was the best crossing guard the corner of Main St and Wolcott St has ever seen. Over her 35+ years as the crossing guard for many students, she helped keep us all safe and brought us lots of joy seeing her there everyday even at 92 years old. We love you and will miss you Myrtle <3
