From the 1972 Oakfield-Alabama yearbook. Bayne told a student "I know I'm right - but if I'm wrong, I'll stand on my head and spit black jelly beans." He was wrong, and made good on his word, with the use of two corner walls and someone's foot to keep him from toppling.

Dear Mrs. Johnson and family,
On behalf of All our football friends and players from Pittsford Sutherland we were so saddened to hear about Coach Johnsons passing. We are all so incredibly grateful to have had coach Johnson in our lives. Multiple Facebook Post about how respected he was. An awesome coach, mentor, teacher, motivator and friend to so many. I personally want to thank Coach for letting me start my Junior year over some very talented other players. I hope I didn't let you down coach!!! You turned around our program and made some incredibly talented players Happy To Win Again!!! There were so many great games and memories. You were Loved and Respected Coach!!

I'll always remember Bayne as a strong advocate during his tenure as the coach of the Sutherland High School girls Varsity basketball team. Whatever the Knights got in terms of support, he wanted the same for the Lady Knights. Never mind at that time the Knights were Section V darlings and could pack the gymnasium whenever they played. Bayne rightfully felt that the Lady Knights deserved the same support and respect. That memory, among many others (like his AP Vietnam seminar) has stuck with me over the years. Sending our love and prayers to Carol and the extended Johnson family. Requiescat in pace, Bayne... you left your mark on this world and many are better for it. Stan & Lynne Merrell

Carol, we were sad to learn of Bayne's passing. We remember him for his big smile and hearty laugh, and of course that twinkle in his eye. As teachers in the same corridor, you could always count on Bayne for a word of encouragement, a joke, or a pat on the back. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

My condolences to Bayne's family. I was a former member of CWNYBOWS referee and officiated many of his varsity games at Pittsford. He was a dynamic coach on the court but always fun after the game. He will be missed.

I was so sorry to hear about coach's passing. Great guy and fantastic football coach. Many memories of going to battle on the field with him and the guys. One story outside of football is going ice fishing with Coach, Matt Jabbour and myself. We had a awesome day learning how to ice fish and laughing the entire day. My thoughts and prayers are with Mrs. Johnson and the family.

Mr Johnson,
You are my all time favorite teacher. You pushed me to be a better student, but more importantly, you challenged me to be a better person. You treated me like any other student, which was not always the case considering my Dad was the VP of the school.
I’ll never forget your laugh, your hugs, teaching style and your interest in me as a whole person. You came to my soccer games. You made me feel like I matter at a time that I seriously questioned that.
One in a million. Heaven gained one of the best. Say hi to my Dad for me.
I love you, Mr Johnson. Thanks for helping to make me my best self. Thank you for believing in me and caring about me. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and inspiring me every day.
